FA. John K. Mwangi EBS

FA John K. Mwangi EBS is the CEO and Managing Trustee of the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority. Prior to his appointment Mr. John Mwangi was the Manager, Unclaimed Financial Assets Line at UFAA, a position he held since year 2015. Mr. Mwangi has had a successful career in several financial institutions within investment and commercial banking. He has over 16 years’ experience having worked with leading Fund Managers, Investments and Commercial banking Industry in Kenya as a Relationship Manager. Mr. Mwangi joined the Authority in April 2015 from Bank of Africa (BOA) where he was a Relationship Manager in Institutional Banking. Prior to joining BOA, Mr. Mwangi also worked at African Alliance Investment Bank, Old Mutual Asset Managers, and ICEA Asset Managers. These institutions have their operations spread locally, regionally and globally, with diverse and rich corporate cultural diversity. Mr. Mwangi is a Certified Investment and Financial Analyst and Member of the Institute of Certified Investment and Financial Analysts (ICIFA). He is also a member of the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM). He holds an Executive MBA from Strathmore Business School and underwent a Modular course on Corporate Entrepreneurship and Global Strategy at IESE Business School, the University of Navarra in Barcelona. Mr. Mwangi is a Certified Trustee by RBA in conjunction with the College of Insurance and His undergraduate is in Economics and Business Studies from the University of Nairobi.

Manager, HR & Admin

Caroline Chirchir

Mrs. Caroline Chirchir is the Manager, Human Resource and Administration. Mrs. Chirchir is a seasoned Human Resource practitioner with wide experience in the financial and service sectors. Prior to joining UFAA, she served in senior management positions at SMEP Microfinance Bank, Kenya Bankers Savings and Credit Cooperative Society, and Rentokil Initial Kenya. Mrs. Chirchir also previously served as a Secretary of the Board of Trustees of a Staff Retirement Benefits Scheme. She holds a Masters of Arts degree (Counseling Psychology) from Daystar University, a Bachelor of Arts (Business Management) from the University of Sunderland (UK) and a Post-graduate Diploma in Strategic Human Resource Management (Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology). Besides, she has undertaken various other senior management training courses including Retirement Benefits Trustee Certification Programme conducted by the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA). Mrs Chirchir is a member of the Institute of Human Resources Management (IHRM) as well as a member of the Kenya Counselling and Psychological Association (KCPA).

Acting Manager

CPA Beatrice Chelangat

Beatrice Chelangat – CPA-K is the Ag. Manager Unclaimed Financial Assets Line department. She is responsible for overall management of the Unclaimed Financial Assets Trust Fund, including overseeing compliance by holders, investment of received funds and re-unification to the rightful owners.

She holds a Masters in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Option) from The University of Nairobi.  She also possesses CPA-K and is currently pursuing a Certified Fraud Examination (CFE).

Beatrice previously served as a Senior Auditor at Unclaimed Financial Assets Line department with immense contributions to not only the department but also the organization in her area of expertise. She also served as a Forensic Investigator at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, as an Internal Audit Manager at Chai Sacco Limited and Operations Officer at Equity Bank.

Manager, Fin. & Acc

CPA Henry Taabu

CPA Henry Taabu holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree both from the University of Nairobi. He is an alumnus of the Program on Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis from John Deutsch International at Queens University, Canada and holds a Certificate in Roads Management from the International Roads Federation (IRF). CPA Henry has over 14 years of experience in the Public Sector where he has held several responsibilities in Internal Audit, Financial Analysis, Reporting and Management, Treasury Management, Investment Management, Project Accounting, and Budget Control and Management. CPA Henry is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA). He is also an SAP Certified Associate in Financial Accounting.

Manager, ICT

Francis Muchina

Francis is an experienced ICT professional with 10 years of experience. He possesses extensive knowledge in Project Management, ICT Security, ICT Management, ICT Policy, and Strategy Design and Implementation. Francis holds a Master of Science degree in Information Technology Management (MSc.ITM), University of Sunderland, UK through a scholarship by the Association of Commonwealth Universities; a Bachelor of Science degree (First Class) in Information Technology (BSc.IT), JKUAT; CCNA, Computer Pride; and AIX System Administration, IBM, South Africa. He is a member of the Computer Society of Kenya (CSK).

Senior Strategy Officer

David K. Masai

Mr. Masai is the Head of Strategy & Planning at Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority. In this capacity, his key accountabilities span Strategic Planning, Performance Contracting, Technical Research and Quality Assurance (ISO 9001:2015 QMS).

He has over 12-years work experience in strategy, business development, research, quality assurance and enterprise development across public (GoK Parastatals); private (Microfinance/Development finance/FMCGs); and social (Church) sectors in Kenya.

Mr. Masai is currently pursuing a Master of Science in International Relations at Technical University of Kenya. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in International Business Administration (Magna Cum Laude) from USIU-A; Diploma in Project Management (Credit) and certificated in Monitoring and Evaluation Professional from Kenya Institute of Management (KIM); Research Methodology earned from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT); and Change Management Professional from Acuity Institute, USA. Besides, he is an MBA in strategic Management (finalist) at Moi University; Strategic Leadership Development Programme (SLDP-from Kenya School of Government (KSG), Senior Management Course (SMC-KSG), Lead Auditor for ISO 9001:2015, ABLI Fellow; and member of Kenya Association for Public Administration and Management (KAPAM) and Kenya Institute of Management.

Mr. Masai worked at Industrial Development Bank as head of Strategy and Business Development; and Manager, Enterprise Development at Rafiki Microfinance Bank.

Manager, Procuremen

Jack Gumboh, PhD

Dr. Gumboh has over 10 years’ working experience in private and public sectors. He has previously worked for Barclays Bank of Kenya, Essar Telekom Kenya Ltd, Diamond Trust Bank among others. Dr. Gumboh holds a Doctorate degree in Supply Chain Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, a Master’s of science degree in Procurement and Logistics from JKUAT and a Professional Diploma from Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supplies. He is a member of CIPS, KISM and a certified procurement practitioner.

Head of Corp. Comm

Paul Muya

Paul heads the Corporate Communications department and Education and Awareness program at the Authority. He holds a Master of Business Administration (Strategic Management) degree from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Media Technology from Maseno University. He has also attended training in Business Development at Shikoku Productivity Centre, Japan, and is very well versed in a variety of multi-media skills. Paul has a vast experience in the area of communication spanning ten years in both private and public sectors. He is a member of the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK).

Manager, Audit & Ris

CPA Pius Kimutai, CISA

Pius is responsible for the provision of independent and objective assurance to the Board and Management that Risk Management, Governance, and Internal Control Processes are working effectively and efficiently and supports the strategic goals and objectives of the Authority. Pius holds a Master of Business Administration (Finance) degree and a Bachelor of Education (Business Studies & Economics) degree both from the University of Nairobi. Pius is also a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPAK) and Certified Information System Auditor (CISA). He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants Kenya (ICPAK), Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and a member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA). Pius has over 15 years’ experience in Audit, Finance, and Banking.

Corporation Secretary & Head of Legal

FCIArb., David Kamau

David is responsible for the legal, governance and corporation secretary functions of the Authority. He is admitted to practice law in Kenya and is a Certified Public Secretary. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London. He holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Moi University, a post graduate Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law and a Master of Business Administration from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. David also holds a Master of Laws Degree from Robert Gordon University, Scotland.

As a legal and corporate governance professional with over 20 years experience, he has held senior management roles in the private and public sectors in Kenya.

He is a Member of the Law Society of Kenya, the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (London & Kenya).

The Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA) is an Authority created under the Unclaimed Financial Assets Act, No 40 of 2011 to administer unclaimed financial assets.
